Park Place Guitar Festival 2013
Presented by Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance and sponsored by Park Place, the Guitar Festival will include live music, Air Guitar Competition, giveaways, guitar show and swap, an improvisation jam, kids' activities, guitar orchestra and mariachi performances by local school groups, GuitART, vendors and exhibitors.
From those who were born with a guitar in hand to kids whose greatest exposure has come from Guitar Hero, multiple activities throughout Saturday will engage attendees of all skill levels.
Guitarists of every genre will perform interactive shows enlightening and entertaining audiences. Performers will include international classical and flamenco competition winners from the University of Arizona, local rock bands and well-known blues performers, co-sponsor by the Tucson Guitar Society.
Guitar clinics ranging from how to care for a guitar to how to compose for the guitar will inspire many guitarists. Visual art will meet musical art as students paint and decorate acoustic guitars in a variety of themes, coined as GuitART. Coordinators will lead students through the artistic processes.
The guitar show and swap will feature local appraisers, guitar collectors and the public showing and purchasing unique guitar treasures. This is an opportunity to take the classic guitar a great grandfather passed down and find the history and value never imagined.
Guitar orchestras and mariachi students from area schools will be able to perform and have their lessons interwoven throughout the festival.
At the close of the festival, musicians of all genres will perform an improvisation jam session from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Food Court Main Stage.

The Folk Shop www.thefolkshop.com
The Folk Shop has been in business in Tucson, Arizona since 1986. The store was originally founded by B.L. Anderson and was situated in a small, humble location in the 4th Avenue Shopping District (well known for their two annual street fairs and ex-Bohemians-turned capitalists). In 1991, the store was purchased by its current owner, Paul Blumentritt. The next few years brought growth to the business and by the time 1995 was over, we found ourselves in a big, bright, beautiful setting in mid-town, where we currently reside.

US AIR GUITAR COMPETITION
In space, no one can hear you play air guitar
In 1989, a most triumphant activity went main stream. That year, the air guitar became a means of comradery and comedy with Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Now, in 2013, the talents hiding in the hands of people around the city will take the stage, showing off their bodacious skill set in Tucson's first US Air Guitar Competition on Saturday, June 15 at Park Place.
The competition takes place during the free-to-attend Park Place Guitar Festival, opening Friday, June 14 at 6 p.m. with Guitars and Growlers in the breezeway between Sears and Total Wine & More. The kick-off event features craft beer tasting from Total Wine & More, live music and clinic from musician Johnny Faber and food sampling from Park Place restaurants.
On Saturday, June 15 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Guitar Festival continues with the US Air Guitar Competition and a showcase of guitars and related themes through nearly 40 performances, exhibitions, instrument displays, workshops and recycled guitar creations.
The Air Guitar Competition will make public what is usually limited to the bathroom mirror and broomstick in a competition, judged by local celebrities and allowing even the most amateur of guitarists to win prizes.
The top two winners (must be at least 18 year of age to enter) will be qualified to move on to the US Air Guitar Championships Semifinals in San Francisco in August. First place will receive $300 to help cover travel expenses and second place will also win a prize.
The competition consists of two rounds at the Food Court Main Stage. In round one, beginning at 2 p.m., each competitor performs to a song of their own choosing. In round two, beginning at 4 p.m., the top competitors will perform to a surprise compulsory song. In each round, contestants perform one minute of a song and are judged on a combination of technical merit, stage presence and "airness."
Two winners from each city will move on to compete in the US Air Guitar Finals for the crown of US Air Guitar Champion. The national champion will then be sent to represent the US in the World Championships, where he or she will compete against champions from all around the globe.
Founded in 2003, US Air Guitar is the official Air Guitar Association of the United States and is responsible for operating the US Air Guitar Championships, official regional events and specialized championships. US Air Guitar is devoted to taking the nation's unofficial pastime out of the bedroom and putting it up on the world stage.
Official national championships currently are held in 24 countries around the globe including the USA, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland, United Kingdom and South Africa, with more countries participating every year.
